All right, we are back again with the last post on building a successful mindset with a focus on advice you’d offer a friend. So, lets get into it. I’ve learned, over the years that our internal dialogue is often very different from how we would speak to someone we care about. We are quick to cut ourselves down, to be very self-critical, and to doubt everything. But, rather than be so hard on yourself, try to give yourself the same pep-talk, or advice that you would give a friend.

Sounds simple, right?

But in reality, it’s a challenging transition to make, especially if you’ve had the same negative reactions and internal dialogue for most of your life.

It will require patience and practice. You’ll have to be very self-aware so that you recognize when you’re slipping into “negative-speak” before you fully get there.

That way, you can switch direction, change your vocabulary, and start to think of the way you would address a friend with the same thoughts and negative feelings.

The truth is, this one change can completely transform the way you live your life. It’s one of the first places to start in learning to nurture a growth mindset.

Research has linked self compassion to everything from improved mental well-being to enhanced self-worth and increased motivation.

So, learn to be kind to yourself. Sure, it will take time to become comfortable with the new narrative; after all, it’s likely you’ve been hard on yourself for many years. But through patience and practice, you’ll change the new normal.

You’ll gain a better understanding of why you were so quick to self-doubt and judge in the first place, and you’ll ultimately start to show yourself more grace and compassion.

You won’t be consumed by negative thoughts, and you’ll learn how to centre yourself.

It starts with one action, one day. Then, repeat that action tomorrow and the day after.

And within a few weeks, you won’t have to remind yourself to be kinder to yourself. You’ll just be.

I wish you the very best.

Until next time,
